What to Do

Ice Climbing There are so many things to do while using McCarthy as your base camp. If you're looking for things to do on your own you can:

Explore three ghost towns (little known Blackburn is just a mile from McCarthy, 3.5 miles from Kennicott).
Visit our museum
Walk through two historic cemeteries
Go on a world-class hike

For those who like a little more structured activity, you can:

Go flight seeing through the highest concentration of mountains anywhere
Go ice hiking or glacier climbing (a great soft adventure for any age - novice and expert alike)
Go river rafting (this can also be combined with a flight see.)
Tour the historic mill building in Kennicott

Either way, after you're done exploring, you'll want to hang out in the town of McCarthy - you'll feel like a visitor to a remote Alaskan town (kinda like Northern Exposure, full of quirky locals).
