Lancaster's Backpacker Hotel

Lancaster's Backpacker Hotel is located in downtown McCarthy and caters to the budget traveler. We are not a hostel. The simple rooms are newly renovated for the 2010 season.  Most rooms have bunk, twin or double beds or a combination of bed types.

Lancaster's offers clean, comfortable, private rooms for 1 to 4 persons. Lancaster's is a very popular hotel with backcountry hikers and has only 10 rooms. Designed for the budget traveler with access to a reading room and single-person-use shared bathrooms and shower rooms. Lancaster's can also store unneeded baggage for you while you visit the spectacular backcountry destinations of this World Heritage Site.

This hotel is designed for no-frills backpackers looking for a break from camping without the higher expense of a fancier hotel.

Lancaster's is open from Memorial day to September 10th each year.

History of Lancaster's Backpacker Hotel

Lancaster's is located in the Jim Edwards historic home and is named after another former tenant, Slim Lancaster - two of McCarthy's long line of well-known characters.  The restoration of Lancaster’s began in 2002 and opened in spring 2003. Upgrades were performed in May 2009.  The final upgrade to an improved no-frills budgetel will be completed in early 2010.
